The weather has been gorgeous here in Chicago this weekend and we’re (Lisa and I) out on the deck having coffee and pushing away thoughts of the coming winter months. School starts for Aaron Fioritto tomorrow and for us that means summer is officially over. Mike Johnston over at the Online Photographer blog asked for readers to submit a picture…

Photographer David Burnett at the Olympics with his Speed Graphic
I was watching the Greco-Roman wrestling event last night (taped or dvr’d whatever you call it) and I saw this photographer in the background set down a 4×5 Speed Graphic. I knew it had to be David Burnett. I read somewhere that he has been working with a Speed Graphic and other cameras recently and figured it had to be…
My daughter Mia is married
My daughter Mia married Ryan Rubin on July 19 in Chicago, Illinois. The parents, Mike and Lisa, have been recovering while the couple has been on their honeymoon. It was a wonderful celebration and we could not be thrilled more with our new son-in-law. I took this picture during their last dance, right before they left the reception. I really…
Only a man by Jonny Lang
I have a Jonny Lang channel setup on Pandora and heard his song “Only A Man” today. It is one of the most powerful songs I have heard in a long time. The lyrics and his vocal just stopped me in my tracks. You can read more about him here.
Rain Man by Tommy Oshima
I have spent hours looking at Tommy Oshima’s photographs. This is one of my favorites. I just love the rain drops and the great blacks. I have been meaning to point his work out for some time. He lives and works in Japan and is preparing an exhibit so his postings have been light to date, but there is a…
Some pics of Tony Corso
As I mentioned in an earlier post, my friend Tony Corso came to visit from his home in Paris, Texas. Tony and I have known each other since high school and were college roommates for a time. While Tony was here I had an appointment at the hospital to see an orthopedic surgeon. Tony fell asleep while waiting for me.…
Mia’s bridal photos
Last week my friend and photographer Tony Corso and I spent some time shooting my daughter’s bridal portraits. The wedding is quickly approaching and I’m sure it is going to be a wonderful celebration. I’ve posted a sneak preview here but Ryan is going to have to wait to see the full affect. She was just beautiful and radiant even…
Travel update
Of course the flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago ended up being late. How could this trip go any other way? We boarded on time and pulled out to our spot on the run way and then they shut down the airport. We sat on the tarmac for 2 hours while the weather cleared.
Traveling mercies …
I really should not complain. But I am going to anyway since I’m sitting in the Ft. Lauderdale airport with some time on my hands. Most of my travel has been uneventful. I have experienced the usual weather and mechanical delays, but if you average it out over the years I have escaped being in travel hell. This trip has…
Photographer Cornell Capa is dead
I saw his obit in the New York Times today. His passion was “concerned photography” and I really like the quote at the end of the obit: The historian Richard Whelan wrote in the introduction to “Cornell Capa: Photographs” that Mr. Capa “often quoted the words of the photographer Lewis Hine: ‘There are two things I wanted to do. I…
