Amazing service from Hosting Matters

I can’t say enought about how great my experience has been with “Hosting Matters”:http://www.hostmatters.com. At 12:08 EST I sent a request asking them to install a Perl module so I could use a script to post to my weblog via email. By 12:32 I was notified that the module had been installed. Why can’t other companies respond like this?

Test post using the pop3-to-MT.pl script

This is a test post using the pop3-to-MT.pl script. I am sending this via Outlook and in plain text. The script was authored by “Scott Fallin”:http://www.scottfallin.com/hacks/pop3toMT-doc.text and more information on how to use it and set it up can be found “here”:http://www.scriptygoddess.com/archives/2003/06/25/post-to-your-mt-blog-by-email/#004001.

WordPress weblog software

I just set my son up with his very own “weblog”:http://sean.fioritto.us/blog/weblog using “WordPress”:http://www.wordpress.org. I am hosting at “Hosting Matters”:http://www.hostmatters.com and setting this up could not have been easier. I logged into their control panel and selected to install WordPress into his subdomain. It took less than 5 minutes and he’s up and running. I like what I see so far…

Movielink Trial

After two failed attempts I was finally able to download a movie from Movielink and sucessfully play it at home on my TV. Some observations: 1. The site can be very slow. I tried to add a film to my shopping cart twice, but the browser hung and I bailed. If you are behind a firewall this most likely won’t…

Wireless iPod?

My son Aaron described this to me last night. He wants an iPod that would work like the networked versions of iTunes. He wants access to other iPod users playlists when they are near him and thought that it should probably have some kind of “address” so you could send messages to it. He also wants wireless headphones. Pretty cool…

Test entry

Update: Obviously fixed. I added “lastn=”15” to my MTEntries tag and the previous posts have been restored. I am guesing that all of my entries were archived off of the main index since I have not updated much recently. This is a test entry – trying to figure out why all of my previous posts have disappeared from the main…

Digital Storytelling Cookbook

The Centre for Digital Storytelling has published a comprehensive Digital Storytelling Cookbook. To quote: In all communities, in all cultures, stories evolve from the culinary experience. Making media, like making a meal, requires guidance, learning from our friends through the sharing of recipes and from those who spend their professional lives in the kitchen. We have helped over 1000 people…

Converting Shorten sound files to MP3

I recently downloaded some live music performances from the “Internet Archive”:http://www.archive.org/audio/ and they were in the Shorten (.shn) format. I found an easy-to-use “converter”:http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm that will convert the files to the MP3 format. The dBpowerAMP converter supports a multitude of “codecs”:http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm. If what you need isn’t built in, you can download what you’re looking for and install it. It looks…

Installed Blacklist and Textile plugins

I recently installed the “Blacklist”:http://www.jayallen.org/projects/mt-blacklist/ plugin and “MT Textile 2.0”:http://bradchoate.com/mt-plugins/textile. I have not received a lot of comment spam, but I wanted to try an eliminate it if I can. At some point if the spammers keep it up I’ll have to turn comments off. Read more about “AKMA”:http://akma.disseminary.org/archives/001342.html and “John Batelle’s”:http://battellemedia.com/archives/000668.php frustrations with comment spam. I also wanted to…
