I finally managed to get MoinMoin installed on my server after a bit of frustration. I kept getting the “500 – internal server error” and I thought it must be a permissions issue. I changed permissions on files, directories all to no avail. I double-checked the config file and the parameters for my setup looked ok. I finally decided to check the error log and voila – found the problem. I changed the wiki name in the config file and it included an apostrophe. I guess that was choking the script. Repeat after me three times, “check the error logs dummy….”
I had installed phpWiki (provided by HostingMatters, my hosting company) but I didn’t like it. I tested MoinMoin previously by installing it locally and I liked the features. This whole process started when I tried to get emacs-wiki.el to work on my server. Since I am on a Windows machine it involved Cygwin, Tramp and other tweaks to emacs and I finally gave up.
The plan is to use the wiki as a personal pim. I need to dig into jpluck, customizing the css, and search for an editmoin like tool to edit my documents.
