S.S. Eastland Mural

On July 24, 1915, the SS Eastland rolled over into the Chicago river and 844 of its 2,500 passengers died. The images below are from a mural painted by Viktor Valasek commemorating the 100th anniversary of the disaster. The mural, one of many, located on 16th street in the Pilsen neighborhood is my wife Lisa’s favorite and also mine. The spray technique provides a bit of mystery to the mural. Do the figures represent passengers waiting to board? Or victims of the disaster or survivors?
